Barack Obama on Center Stage
I never thought I’d see the day when Al Franken and David Brooks were both talking up the same political candidate. Yet it happened. The day was October 19th.
A daily reader of the NY Times Op-ed pages, I often skip over or just skim David Brooks’ columns. But the title of his Thursday piece, “Run, Barack, Run,” (subscription required) really got my attention.
He started the column with, “Barack Obama should run for president.” He ended it by saying, “Whether you’re liberal or conservative, you should hope Barack Obama runs for president.”
In between those two sentences he spoke of how Barack Obama is a new kind of politician, one who sees both sides of an issue. That “his style is surely the antidote to the politics of the past several years.” And that the times we live in require the gifts that he has to offer.
That same day, on his morning radio program, Al Franken and columnist Tom Oliphant were discussing how, at public speaking engagements, any mention of Barack Obama as a possible presidential candidate in 2008 would cause the crowd to go wild.
Barack Obama is surely a man with Charisma (capital C intentional). When we look at his hand we can see that he has an ultra long Apollo or ring finger, almost as long as his middle finger. This is the marker of someone who is at home in front of an audience. (Another well-loved public figure with a long ring finger is Bill Clinton.)
Senator Obama’s pinkie or Mercury finger is also exceptionally long. Persons with long Mercury fingers are quick, sharp and clever, and tend to be the brainstormers and “decoders” of our world. Long palms and fingers, as seen here in these photos of Mr. Obama, are indicative of an active mind. With the middle sections of his fingers being the longest of the phalanges, Senator Obama’s hands show that he has a practical side as well as an idealistic one.
Without his time of birth, I can’t
do a full karmic analysis, but there are certain factors that substantiate what I have already pointed out in his hand. I’ve run a chart for sunrise on the day of his birth. (click chart for larger image.)
Barack Obama is a Leo. Mercury, significator of the mind, and Uranus, significator of the higher mind, are also both in Leo. No sign likes being on center stage more than that of the kingly lion. Leo is the sign of the natural leader, one who can motivate others and take the big risks. It is the sign of creative intelligence.
Venus in Cancer gives him a strong desire to create unity, and is likely a contributing factor in his widespread appeal to the public.
Senator Obama has an out of sign conjunction of Saturn and Jupiter, reflecting what his hand shows about idealism tempered with a dose of realism. Saturn is in its native Capricorn and Jupiter is in Aquarius. At its best, this gives him the ability to, as Joe Klein writes in the current issue of Time Magazine, “understand and reconcile opposing views.” The Saturn/Jupiter conjunction could very well be the indicator that Obama is destined to bridge the gap between the conservatives (Capricorn) and the liberals (Aquarius).
At its worst, this conjunction could show that the senator has high ideals but finds himself thwarted in his efforts to make them a reality.
Or worse, finds himself unable to take a firm stand so as not to alienate one side or the other.
The latter could very well be a problem. Take a look at the senator’s thumb in these photos. In every one of them the thumb starts out in a nice spread away from the palm, the mark of a doer, a person who can apply their will successfully in the world. But the top phalange then hesitates and turns back toward the palm, indicating difficulty following through in service to his highest self.
Many of the hands I read show tremendous potential, but without a strong thumb, without the ability to direct the will and take a stand, the possibilities have a difficult time becoming realities. Taking a stand and being a centrist do not have to be mutually exclusive.
Barack Obama has two years to work on getting his thumbs out so he can confidently make things happen according to his own creative vision. If he is successful, he has a good chance of getting a thumbs up from the American people.

Obama is one of only 10 democrats to vote for the Oman trade agreement. Let\’s have slave labor and give our ports away. I may yet forgive because this is his first term but definitely not yet.

Welcome Rick and thanks for your contribution. David Brooks wrote that Barack Obama was generally in favor of free trade. I heard about the Oman trade agreement on the Thom Hartmann radio show and agree that it is probably not a good thing. I am neither endorsing nor opposing Barack Obama, merely pointing out his strengths and weaknesses in relation to the buzz he is creating for himself. As I stated less directly in my post, he is still a bit worried about making enemies among those who have more experience in politics. I think he will have to take a stand on the difficult issues one way or another, and it remains to be seen which way the wind will blow in the end. Thanks again!

Rick and Leslie you have both taught me something tonight and I’ll pay more attention now to the Obama name - as well as watch that thumb!

If accurate birth details are known i.e. date of birth, time of birth and place of birth, it is rather simple to predict whether he or she has a slim, good or excellent chance to win the 2008 US presidential race. It is my challenge from India. Anyone can ask any vital question about anybody whom we donot know but full birth details are provided. Welcome and thanks.

I have shaken Barack Obama’s hand. Let me tell you what it felt like: It feels long, bony, and dry, but a good, close grasp. Nothing halfway about it. I came away with the sense that this is what it may have felt like shaking the hand of Abraham Lincoln, another man from Illinois.

Young people in today’s America may likely propel an untested senator and preacher to the world stage as the President of the United States of America. Barack has a “voice of authority” - the mere sound of his voice will brainwash you. German people once elected a similar leader because of emerging new technologies (microphone, radio, etc). These new technologies gave his voice more power than it should have had. My prediction is that Barack’s character (which we can’t determine because we cannot question him or criticize him because he is part black and gets special protection, have you noticed?) - that Barack’s character is dictatorial. If my theory is right, he will be propeled onto the world stage and become a dictator with terrible unintended consequences.

Kudos! to Dr Kharma!
Your “theory” about BO I’m sure is my very same “re-occurring” nightmare. When I point out these very same issue’s to which you allude to, others scoff at me, yet, I do not think the consequences OF HIM are as much unintended as they are unrealized BY HIM, YET!
Those of us who survive the next 8 years may discover that the man who brought us all together, did so in order to control us better!
When I turned 18 one month before 1980 election, I think I was the only person within 5 years of voting age who even talked about the candidates, what was going on, and actually voted!
As I remember every excuse from my young peers on why NOT to vote of course it was always the same answer, my vote won’t count, everyone knows who’s going to win so why should I vote?
Never in all the twenty something years of being able to vote did I ever think in a million years that this country, as screwed up as it is, to be in the hands of people who are all about the skin of the duck, and not what it really tastes like.
So tell me more of this theory, Dr. Kharma, I’m still trying to decided on exactly what date I should pack and head for Canada, if they’re still letting any Americans in by then.

I feared I may be the only one who felt this way (concerning BO and his “almost unnatural charismatic/rhetoric talent”. I cannot help but have an instinctual caution concerning BO. His charisma and skill at tenderly revealing and salving the gaping wound (racial) within the soul’s of many white, black, etc. long evaded ‘neath the ‘political correctness’ bandaide astounds me. On one hand I am thankful and grateful to hear words that are well known by many but rarely heard with love. On the other hand I pray ’tis a Godly source and not a man being used by a more “loveless-genuis-spirit” desceiving many until submission and then truely revealed for what “it” is. Pushing BO aside and revealing its true intent and source via his own weakness. Either way, I feel BO is authentic and unaware of this possible “Great Darkness” that may OR MAY NOT be utilizing BO’s magnetic charisma.
