Many thanks go out to the folks at Truthdig for posting this very clear picture of North Korean leader Kim Jong Il with his hand in the air. On Monday, North Korea announced the successful test of a nuclear bomb. While not a lot is known about the test at this time, it is a major cause of concern all over the globe.

From this photo it is easy to see that Kim Jong Il has a very red palm. The tips of his fingers, the ball of his thumb, the area under his index finger and his Mound of the Moon (heel of his hand) all appear to be inflamed.

Red is the color of Mars, of anger and frustration. Redness in the hands is generally a sign of an unconscious need to feel more powerful.

The tips of the fingers are representative of the mental realm. Red fingertips are indicators of angry thoughts. The area under the index of Jupiter finger tells of ambition, when red it would be ambition for power.

The red Moon area is potentially the most problematical. Since the Moon rules emotions, the redness here can indicate unconscious anger and irrational mood swings.

In addition, Kim Jong Il has short fingers, which show that he is more likely to act before thinking and not prone to analyzing all the ramifications of those actions. We can also see from the photo that the base phalanges of his fingers are much more fleshy than the upper sections. Along with a thick Mound of Venus (ball of the thumb), this is an indicator of big appetites that need to be satisfied. When considered in combination with the extreme redness of his hand, it is doubtful that the North Korean leader is open to discussion and diplomacy.

We can only hope that, in determining a response to North Korea’s nuclear threat, leaders with cooler heads, and cooler hands, prevail.
